so...did I really read that we have a 'winter storm warning' in effect for tomorrow afternoon and evening? I know, you folks up north are laughing at this - but you know - for us, this sucks. I think they're saying 1-3 inches of snow??? That is just...wrong. That is a having-to-wear-socks-kinda wrong. Where is that warm early February day when I plant my potatoes? Where is the gin-and-tonic-sun-on-your-face weather? I did have a margarita (and a good one) for lunch today - a lunch out with a friend - where at the end of catching up my friend said 'you do really need something good to happen' which is kind of an understatement. As for a nice thing that happened (not the big GOOD thing needed however, but nice nonetheless), another manuscript got accepted this week (which means I need to update THE LIST - and I know you can't wait to see that - I promise to update it soon).
But...it's the eclair-baking postdoc's last week - he departs on Sunday. Saturday, possibly in the snow, we'll be having an early afternoon clam bake at my place (around a fire outside). This guy is my neighbor, hence the clams. I'll be making a cheese fondue (when was the last time you fondue'd?), there will be beer (and coffee and hot tea and hot chocolate) and then the rest is potluck style. It certainly won't be gin-and-tonic weather, that's for sure.
This winter has just been nuts.
Texas has more snow than us up here in Upstate NY - the lake effect snow belt - how crazy is that?

here's to good things happening, budding hydrangeas, and even a light dusting of snow to remind of how glorious spring will be -
My first trip to your blog - I've read back as far as November; the diary of a rare and vital being with incredible perspective and persistence

So.............how much snow did you get? So sorry you had to wear socks, what a bummer. I think the last time I had cheese fondue I lived in Frankfurt Germany and had no children....both of whom are college grads. Have one for me!!!

I think you should have a gin and tonic anyway as an act of defiance.

Yes, I say gin and tonic anyway, too....

Tina, nutso indeed! I want spring.
Gumbo, it was nice to hear from you.
Janet, the cheese fondue was great. Swiss and gruyere - some white wine, nutmeg, garlic and fresh lemon - done. I highly recommend it!
Les and Dirty Girl: I let you guys down, and didn't do the G&T's - but we were outside, with beers on snow and clams fresh from the salty waters - so we still did okay!
