~Magnolia 'Jane'~

It hasn't been a great day. Actually, if I think about it - it hasn't been a good week. Morale is down. Emails about restructuring departments, re-aligning programs, emails about budget cuts, more articles about budget cuts, increasing tuition...blah. You get my point. No more details are necessary (or wise) after such a lovely day.
Tomorrow I head off to Myrtle Beach to walk a half-marathon on Saturday (and most likely in the rain) with a friend who is flying in from graduate school. I'm prepared (which means that I bought a new pair of socks..). The Pointer Sisters and Handsome Stanley will head over to the Paw Plaza Hotel for the weekend, and Haiku the cat will enjoy having the place to herself for a few days.
As for me, I just hope I don't spent the two days away stressing about a grant that isn't close to being ready (and is due on the 17th of February). I might turn another in on 2 March. I feel like a hamster on one of those annoying squeaky wheels.
The 17th of February is my Mother's birthday. She would have turned 75.
I miss her.

Not much cheerful news lately. Good luck on the half marathon though - that ought to be tough enough to be distracting. Wow.

I wish I could think of something inspiring to say, but I'll have to settle for "hang in there". Your pictures always brighten my day, wish I could return the favor.

It's the seventeenth now, and you will be on my mind today. If in other Februaries your mom's birthday was the bright spot in a rather blah month, her loss must make it triple blah in a year like this. I don't think we ever stop missing our mothers.
Good for you on the Half Marathon, Pam! Last weekend was the Austin Marathon, too. Because none of our family runners came in this year, instead of being on a real cheer, drive & support team we went virtual and got our Austin Marathon Cheer Song onto YouTube instead.

Hi Joan, well - the half marathon is over, and I'm glad that it started obscenely early in the morning (6:30 am) because it was over before I even woke up!
Thank you Dan. That is quite sweet of you to say.
Annie, thank you. Last night (on her birthday eve) I dreamed about her for the first time in a long time, so I know that the 'birthday' day has been weighing heavily on my mind. The whole family really. I know that you understand.
