~Hydrangea macrophylla 'Big Daddy'~
~~~~~
What a difference a day makes - blue sky, sun, warmth - winds blowing in from the south. I had all of these intentions, so-called 'good intentions': rake the live oak leaves into the beds, clean-out and turnover (with a pitch fork) the vegetable beds, weed the front perennial bed. But instead, what did I do?
I watched the dogs run, tonques hanging out and ears flying kind of running. I wandered the garden looking for changes, for signs. I watched a bee climb slowly over a star magnolia flower - as if it had just woken up from a long nap. I did try to get a few long stray rose canes in check, and mowed a little, and decided that I liked sedges, and that my large sedge clump was ready for dividing. I did join friends for dinner this evening - one of those dinners that started early and lasted for hours.
Now it's late and the dogs are sleepy and happy, and I haven't felt a proverbial flea bite in hours.
Perfect. Sounds like just what you needed today! (See, it wasn't that you failed to complete your list... it was that your intentions were all well and good, but not the right ones for the day, that's all. ;)
That sounds like precisely the sort of day a person needs after a week of non-stop flea bites. Your perusal of your garden sounds very close to the sort of meditative gazing that I wrote about in a recent post. It's fascinating to me, how much we like to just look at things without necessarily doing anything to them, beyond deciding that we like them, or that they're ready to divide. I hope this was as restorative as it sounds.
Yes I had good intentions too, but the weather was so very nice I put off good intentions until another day.
It sounds like a wonderfully blissful day ~ restorative to the spirits. The dogs must have been pleased too.
Isn't it glorious? I haven't done a productive thing all weekend.
The weekends should be for some rest and rejuvenation especially after the week you had. Glad you are not scratching!
