My home computer's hard drive: CRASHED.
After a full day's worth of effort by the lab's IT guy: We should be able to save ~90% of my files.
The only person to blame: ME.
New computer: Ordered.
(Didn't want to spend the money though. Bad timing. But it's a must-have item for me at home. I mean here it is, a Friday night, and I'm at home working on a grant. It's an exciting life.).
I'm working on a grant at home because the IT guys at work set me up with a brand new Dell laptop (a lab computer, that scientists in the building can check out - I don't even care that it's layered with federal encryptions). I don't know how I can even express my gratitude to them. Honestly. A homemade cake? Lunch? Doesn't even come close.
Next disaster-of-the-day: I get home and listen to a phone message from the woman that was supposed to come and do my home site visit tomorrow for the pointer rescue adoption. And guess what?
My application has been rejected until my new home is built.
I kid you not.
They didn't even come out to the site, and the woman who made the decision did it based on my conversation with the local person who spoke with me on the phone yesterday. I mentioned (in the spirit of full disclosure) my transitional living situation, and today I was told that it would cause unnecessary additional trauma to their dogs.
Stanley begs to disagree (yes, THE Stanley that is currently curled up in front of the fireplace). He considers this whole Airstream adventure like one big camping trip, and we all know how much dogs like to go camping (don't we?). Plus, he sees it as freeing up time, so there will be more beach walks in his future.
Oh - and then earlier in the day, I hear from another person from the rescue who spoke with my veterinarian (as a reference) and her only response was: I want to be your dog. She gave me two possible dates for when I can come and visit the dog. Not great communication I'd say.
So, the answer to a previous question "Will they adopt a dog to a person living in an Airstream?" is apparently not.
Martini anyone? While I'm at it?
It really has been a rotten day. And I still have this grant to write.
