No-names and Re-seeders

Bee_and_sweetshrub_10_may_2006 I don't remember the name of this shrub - I probably have the tag in a box somewhere (I always said that I would start a "gardening book" where I actually keep track of what I plant, but that most definitely hasn't happened yet.  Bottomline:  Deep down I don't care all that much about what something is called, I just like to grow things).  All I know about this shrub is that it is deciduous, and that in the spring it gets these great flowers and the bees love them.

Larkspur_10_may_2006 Something else I love this time of year is larkspur - a reseeding annual that is in the Delphinium family (get a load of the perennial delphiniums here - amazing!).  I planted a package of larkspur seeds about eight years ago now and haven't planted any since - so if you are someone that doesn't mind plants that reseed and change your garden every year, then plant larkspur (I had good luck here in the lowcountry planting my seed directly in the ground in the fall - the plants germinated and stayed small throughout the winter - then grew like crazy when it started warming up in the spring).

I found this site this morning that lists a ton of garden blogs - wow - some are pretty amazing, and I've hardly made it through the list.  I did find someone from South Carolina though - The Garden Blog (of a gal growing Southern) and I loved what she wrote:

"If you are the type of gardener who takes yourself seriously, go compost yourself. Human flesh is a great source of Nitrogen. Your prize peonies will bloom eternally. Go sacrifice yourself! Now!"
